Why Do We Need Tears

Tears Can Tell If You Have Gout | Asian Scientist Magazine ...

Crying is natural and often uncontrollable reaction . We tend to only think of tears when we are sad or something which makes us cry, dust particles, irritants enters our eyes or we are laughing so hard that our eyes water. Tears protect our Eyes.

Tears protects our eyes

Everyday our tears are protecting our Eyes.

The tear film is the barrier between the vulnerable surface of the eye and all kinds of germs, allergens, and irritants in the air.

It is composed of three layers:

Vision Optique: Layers of the Tear Film

A mucous layer that lies directly on the cornea.

An aqueous layer that’s mostly made of saltwater.

An outer oily layer that keeps the other layers from evaporating.

These three layers work together to keep our eyes lubricated, clean, and free of harmful germs.

With every blink, tears wash debris out of our eyes and help our vision stay clear and comfortable.

While we sleep, the gunk isn’t getting cleared out, which is why we have that grit in the corners of our eyes when we wake up.

Why do we get tears?
DID YOU KNOW that your eyes produce three different types of tears ...Reflex: These are tears resulting from external stimuli or we can say triggered by irritants such as wind, smoke, or onions. They are released to flush out these irritants and protect the eye.
Basal: These are tears  assumed to be the tears that are produced at the lowest possible stimulation level of the tear glands.Basal tears are in your eyes all the time to lubricate, nourish and protect your cornea.
Emotional: Humans shed tears in response to a range of emotions. These tears contain a higher level of stress hormones than other types of tears
