How to Safely Watch the Solar Eclipse

A solar eclipse occurs when a portion of the Earth is obscured in a shadow cast by the Moon which fully or partially blocks sunlight.

 This occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth are aligned. Such alignment coincides with a new moon indicating the Moon is closest to the ecliptic plane.

Set Rules for Your Viewing

* Never look directly at sun without proper eye protection. It can hurt your eyes , can damage it and even go blind.  UV rays are focused.

* Do not use normal filters.

* Do not wear normal, ordinary sunglasses to watch SOLAR ECLIPSE.

* Use solar filters and solar viewing  eclipse glasses to view SOLAR ECLIPSE. The 'lenses' of solar viewing glasses are made from special purpose solar filters that are hundreds or thousands of times darker than regular sunglasses. 

* Never view the disk of the sun through a telescope, binoculars or camera without a proper solar filter. The concentrated solar rays will damage the filter and can enter your EYES causing serious injury. 

* Avoid using the devices if they are older than three to four years or appear damaged or wrinkled. 

* Do not look at the partially eclipsed sun through an unfiltered camera, telescope, binoculars or the other optical devices.

*STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS 

*First of all, wash your hands properly and dry them well.

*Open your contact lens case and use your index finger or middle finger of your dominant hand to put the first contact lens in your non-dominant hand.

*Rinse the lens with contact lens solution carefully. Make sure the lens is hydrated. Never use regular water for rinsing.

*Put the lens on the top of the index or middle finger of your dominant hand.

*Check to make sure the lens isn’t damaged and that the correct side is facing up. The edges of the lens should turn up to form a bowl, not flip out. If it’s inside out, gently flip it. If the lens is damaged, don’t use it.It may hurt you or might cause eye problems like itching, redness, watery eyes etc.

*Look in the mirror and hold your upper and lower eyelids open with the hand not holding the lens. Carefully bring the finger holding the lens towards your eye.

*Look in front of you or up toward the ceiling and carefully place the lens in your eye.

*Close your eye slowly and either roll your eye around or press gently on the eyelid to settle the lens in place. The lens should feel comfortable, and you should be able to see clearly after blinking a few times. If it’s not comfortable, gently take out the lens, rinse it, and try again.

*Repeat with the second lens.

These three layers work together to keep our eyes lubricated, clean, and free of harmful germs. 

With every blink, tears wash debris out of our eyes and help our vision stay clear and comfortable. 

While we sleep, the gunk isn’t getting cleared out, which is why we have that grit in the corners of our eyes when we wake up.

Why do we get tears? 

Reflex: These are tears resulting from external stimuli or we can say triggered by irritants such as wind, smoke, or onions. They are released to flush out these irritants and protect the eye.

 Basal: These are tears  assumed to be the tears that are produced at the lowest possible stimulation level of the tear glands.Basal tears are in your eyes all the time to lubricate, nourish and protect your cornea.

 Emotional: Humans shed tears in response to a range of emotions. These tears contain a higher level of stress hormones than other types of tears

 Always keep your lenses clean and hydrated. Prevent Contamination.
